While the law does not grant the privilege of confidentiality to professional coaches, what we discuss will not be shared with others. The International Coaching Federation Code of Ethics defines "Confidentiality" as protection of any information obtained around the coaching engagement unless consent to release is given. Additionally, the International Association of Coaches Ethical Principles - Respect for People's Rights and Dignity says Coaches will treat clients with dignity and respect being aware of cultural differences, and the client's right to autonomy, privacy, and confidentiality. Professional coaching is a confidential process and must remain so in order for it to be successful.
